Texas watercolor artist, Nel Dorn Byrd, is an elected member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society and has attained signature membership in several other societies: Rocky Mountain National, Texas Watercolor, Southwestern Watercolor, and Western Federation. Her paintings have been accepted in numerous exhibitions, consistently winning awards & her work is published in several books & magazines. Her paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the United States.
A quick approach with sometimes unpredictable results is Nel’s method of painting; she strives for an impressionistic interpretation of a subject that relates to events in her life such as travel, nature, remembered places and times.
After many years in the city, relocating to a country environment in Aubrey, TX, Nel’s recent focus has been on the ever changing landscape outside her studio. The four seasons offer a myriad of colors and shapes.
Most recent awards include the Swede Johnson Memorial Award in the 2014 Rocky Mt. National Watermedia Exhibition & the Whitney Award in the 51st SWS Annual.
Nel’s paintings are now available at LAST Art Gallery located just off the square in historic downtown McKinney, TX. The gallery features work by Texas artists and Nel is showing several small framed watercolor paintings, matted pieces and her note cards that are printed from original works. The gallery is located at 105 W Louisiana St.
